Episode 20: “One in four women struggled to afford period products in the last year because of a lack of income. The first city wide study that was done about period poverty in St. Louis found that 46% of low-income women had to choose between a meal and period products every month. Periods are the number one reason why women miss school in developing countries, the leading cause for absenteeism for girls here in the US from period related pain.”

Nadya Okamoto is the founder and executive director of PERIOD, the largest youth-run NGO in women’s health. Through the organization she started at 16, she has addressed over 500,000 periods and registered over 350 campus chapters. Most recently, she was named to InStyle Magazine’s “The Badass 50: Meet the Women Who Are Changing the World” list, along with Michelle Obama, Ariana Grande, and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.  On this week’s episode, we covered everything from her origin story, how to cut through all the BS out there so she can stay motivated, and what’s in store for her future.
